APRIL 17 SHOW AT BOULDER CREEK STABLES
(FORMALLY EDDY RANCH)
It was announced that the show now scheduled for April 17th might have to be moved to our rain date of May 1st. This will be dependent on the weather over the next few weeks as the pasture where we all park is rather soggy at the moment. Please watch the website or contact a board member for updated information.
D9 YEAR END AWARDS – TIME PERIOD CHANGE
The D9 Show Year with regards to the District Year End Awards will now be from our first show in the Spring through the last show in Fall of the current year. (District 9 usually takes a break from November through March.) Previous time period was August to July, same as the State. What was discovered was that many new riders join us in the Spring and don’t have the opportunity to “rack up the events” before the season ends in July. With the new start date being Spring, new riders will have a good opportunity to earn higher levels of year end awards. In order to make the changes, however, this year 2010-2011 will pull in the August and September 2010 shows. Therefore, this year only will include 12 shows from August 2010 to October 2011. Then, starting in 2012, year end awards will be for that calendar year only.
D9 YEAR END AWARDS – SYSTEM CHANGE
While District 9 has always awarded their District awards based on participation, we have used the number of shows attended to assign an award level. This year, awards values will be based on the number of events a rider enters out of total events run for that year. Please see the District 9 Year End Awards Sign Up Sheet to see the award levels for this 2010-2011 year.
COAST ROAD STABLES, SANTA CRUZ
Escape the Heat! This year, District 9 is planning to run two shows at Coast Road Stables. Hopefully, if all things go according to plans, the July 17th and the September 25th show will be held at Coast Road Stables in Santa Cruz. We are still getting the details ironed out, but plan to smell the sea breeze during those shows! The arena we will be using is not big enough to do long events, so only short events will be run at these shows. These include Keyhole, Poles 1, Poles 2, Figure 8 State, Figure 8 Flags, Speedball, and possibly Quads.
SIGN UP TABLE LOCATION
When at Boulder Creek Stables, look for the sign up table over by the announcer’s booth or by Marcia’s trailer in the pasture. This will make it easier to get the booth set up and still answer your signup questions.
NO SNACK SHACK THIS YEAR
Unfortunately, our Snack Shack guru, Dave Blackwolf, won’t be able to provide food for us this year. He’ll be watching his new baby, Odin, while mom rides! So, bring your own food! Marcia will have bottled water and granola bars at her trailer on the honor system, in case you get faint from hunger!
HIGH POINTS AND RAFFLE ITEMS
We really need to bring in some new sponsors. Our new board will be working together to come up with a marketing plan for District 9. Please ask any businesses or individuals who might want to support a local horse club to donate to our raffle or high point.
RAFFLE
While we’re working hard to continue to bring you great raffles, please be advised that there may not be a raffle at every show this year, but the ones that happen will be AWESOME!
WEBSITE / FACEBOOK
While our web address will stay www.redwoodriders.org, the D9 website will now be hosted by WordPress. This will enable our riders to be more interactive online, leave comments, etc. D9 has also joined the 21st century and is now ON FACEBOOK! Check us out at RedwoodRiders. Current moderators are Sebastien and Kristin Praly.
NEW DISTRICT 9 BOARD MEMBERS
The members voted in the new District 9 board. Continuing on the board this year are:
Rebekah Crill , Kristin Praly, Erin Blackwolf, Bonnie Sullivan, Sebastien Praly, Rachel Crill, and Marcia Williams. Joining us new is Brenda Tealer. Brenda has been riding with D9 members this winter at other districts and wants to pitch in and help with publicity and continuing to keep D9 as the most awesome club around!
RUNNING AT ROYAL OAKS ARENA IN JUNE AND AUGUST
The membership also voted this year to run our June 25 & 26th show at Royal Oaks as well as our August 27 & 28th show. There was discussion about what Redwood riders means to the San Lorenzo Valley as well as discussion as to the importance of staying true to our roots (Boulder Creek). Discussion was had on why the restrictions about running “out of our area” in the bylaws exist and why it was important to take things year by year leaving the bylaws intact as they are currently written. There were also several points brought up about how difficult managing the grounds, (specifically watering the arena) are in Boulder Creek as well as how our rider base has changed over the past years. Members were encouraged to continue to publicize our club here in our local areas and invite their riding friends.
NEW PRESIDENT NEEDED NEXT YEAR
Rebekah Crill announced that she would not be running for another term as President after this year. She will continue on the board as Show Secretary and continue to be the District Delegate and State Liaison. District 9 needs to consider who would best represent the District in this position and come up with a replacement. Elections will be in October (probably at the October show) so the new President will have a few months to cross-train before the new riding season starts in April of 2012.
AWARDS
It was announced that each award recipient was receiving the equivalent or close to the amount of money they had put into event fees this year. This was due to the act that most of our high points are donated, so the district is not putting out money for these awards, as well as the fact that Kristin Praly has done a fabulous job with the raffle. Each year, at awards time, the board looks at the bank account and sets aside enough start up money for the next year as well as an emergency fund. The rest of the bank balance is then given back to the riders in the form of Year End Awards. Thanks everyone for participating!
Congratulations to our 2009-2010 Year End Award Champions
